Why see a Dental Hygienist/Oral Health Therapist?
Your dental hygiene and understanding the factors that individually affect your oral health, is the key to maintaining a healthy oral environment and preventing oral diseases.
Dentists of Plenty Valley are fortunate to have an Oral Health Therapists to provide preventive care. We work as a team to provide the best possible care for you.
The ADA states that dental hygienists 'are a registered dental care provider, oral health educator and clinical operator.' They are University trained and work alongside your dentist, focusing on patient education and the prevention of dental decay and gum disease.
A hygienist is highly trained in gently removing deposits and stains from teeth thus avoiding potential loss of teeth and restoring your smile. They are also qualified to take x-rays, place preventive fissure seals, give local anaesthetic for your comfort and take impressions for the construction of mouth guards and whitening trays.
If you have any questions on dental care and treatment options, halitosis (bad breath) or whitening, our Hygienists can assist you. Our Oral Health Therapists also provide examinations and treatment for our younger patients up into early adulthood. This includes examinations, diagnosis, fillings, fissure seals, baby teeth extractions and trauma cases.
